TRAKTOR KONTROL X1

Native Instruments today announced Traktor Kontrol X1, a performance controller designed by the team behind Traktor DJ.

Description:

Traktor Kontrol X1 provides DJs of all styles and genres with a way to control loop, cue, effect, track selection and transport functions of their system. The unit accommodates the two most common digital DJing paradigms – it complements a typical timecode-controlled Traktor Scratch setup consisting of a hardware mixer, turntables or CD decks, and also works as a self-contained controller for DJs who play beat-gridded tracks with Traktor software and mix externally.

Two X1 units can also be combined into a four-deck setup that controls all decks and effect units of Traktor Pro or Traktor Scratch Pro simultaneously.

Traktor Kontrol X1 is equipped with precise buttons, knobs and encoders, complemented by dynamic colored backlighting for additional visual feedback. The X1 integrates with the Traktor software through a dedicated high-resolution protocol, resulting in a level of precision and responsiveness beyond what regular MIDI-based controllers can provide, and allowing for true plug-and-play operation with no setup or specific configuration required.

Traktor Kontrol X1 has been specifically designed for usage in performance environments. Its compact casing is both robust and lightweight for high portability, and the special vertical form factor makes the unit fit seamlessly within a typical club setup. The optional carrying bag for the X1 doubles as a stand that raises the controller surface to match the height of typical DJ mixers.

Traktor Kontrol X1 can be used to control any MIDI-compatible DVS, DJ software or music performance application. The optional MIDI mode of the controller can be engaged on the fly via a dedicated button on the unit.

The X1 also comes with a carefully designed set of parameter assignments for the Serato Scratch Live system, matching the relevant features of the software to the controller without any setup effort. A special Serato Scratch Live overlay for the X1 is also available.

Traktor Kontrol X1 also ships with Traktor LE, software that provides two decks with essential looping, effects and mixing features, turning X1 into an entry-level solution for digital DJing.

Traktor Kontrol X1 will be available in February 2010
for a suggested price of $229 / 199 EUR.
The carrying bag / stand for Traktor Kontrol X1 will be available for $49 / 39 EUR.

Michael Jackson has died at age 50 after being rushed to UCLA Medical Center, NBC News has confirmed.

Los Angeles Fire Department Capt. Steve Ruda told the L.A. Times that Jackson was not breathing when paramedics arrived at his home and CPR was performed.

TMZ.com reported that he may have suffered cardiac arrest.

Jackson had been due to start a series of comeback concerts in London on July 13 running until March 2010. The singer, whose hits included “Thriller” and “Billie Jean,” had been rehearsing in the Los Angeles area for the past two months.

The shows for the 50 London concerts sold out within minutes of going on sale in March.

His lifetime record sales tally is believed to be around 750 million, which, added to the 13 Grammy Awards he received, makes him one of the most successful entertainers of all time.

He lived as a virtual recluse since his acquittal in 2005 on charges of child molestation.

There were concerns about Jackson’s health in recent years but the promoters of the London shows, AEG Live, said in March that Jackson had passed a 4-1/2 hour physical examination with independent doctors.

For those DJs like my self that use traktor pro and are connected to their fans on twitter here is some info that might make you smile! SUPER BITCHIN IDEA!

Pioneering techno DJ Richie Hawtin has announced the development of a new Twitter application that enables him to broadcast his Traktor tracklists in real time over the network.

The custom Twitter application was developed in-house by Richie Hawtin’s label Minus, and it works by uploading song metadata through Traktor Pro’s inbuilt broadcasting functionality.

Track details are automatically posted to Richie Hawtin’s Twitter account every 30 seconds (you can already see Traktor tracklist updates on his Twitter), giving anyone access to the tracklist of his performance, and providing exposure to the artists and labels whose music is being played.

The Twitter app is so advanced that it inspired Native Instruments to add the functionality themselves to version 1.2 of Traktor Pro which will be released as a free update.

That means that soon everyone will be able to tweet their tracklists via Traktor. Awesome!

Treasure Fingers Infectious Disco Funk Invades Salt Lake City.

So I had the great opportunity of attending the Coachella Music Festival this past weekend in Indio, California. It was an incredible experience, and I was able to see a lot of amazing bands and DJs while I was there. There were a few artists in particular that I really enjoyed, and Treasure Fingers was one of them. Doood blew the dance dome up on Sunday night, with his innovative disco remixes and original tracks.

Treasure Fingers hails from Atlanta and is one of the most exciting new talents in dance music. His Debut "Cross The Dancefloor" threw him on the map, and he has been banging out quality tracks ever since. TF also just recently signed on with A Trak and Nick Catchdub's famed label - Fool's Gold Records.

This Wednesday 4.29.09. The W Lounge is proud to present TREASURE FINGERS (First Utah Appearance). Put everything else on hold and make it out to this must see show. Doors @ 9. Early arrival is strongly suggested, the club will fill up fast.

If you've ever seen the Martinez Brothers spin - doesn't matter if it was in a club or just one of the many YouTube videos to capture their inimitable style behind the decks - you know that what separates Chris and Steve Martinez from the rest of the pack isn't just their skills, but their seemingly limitless energy.

Not just party-rocking stamina (though they've got that too), but an unmistakable positivity. Call it generosity. Call it curiosity - the quality which finds them building bridges between New York's soulful house scene and a globalized minimal techno scene, putting them at the forefront of a movement beyond genre.

What sets apart the Martinez Brothers is their spirit.

Oh, and another little thing: their age.

By now you've heard about the Martinez Brothers. These guys are practically the definition of new blood. Steve is 20, Chris is 17- not even old enough to get into most the clubs he plays. In a musical culture that was born in the late '70s, whose heroes are moving into their fifth or sixth decades on the planet, the Martinez Brothers' age definitely sets them apart.

"To be honest, the people our age aren't into dance music," confirms Steve. "They don't know about the culture at all. The people we hang out with are all older than us."

But "the age thing" is no gimmick. It is what it is. Steve and Chris had as much control over when they were born as where they were born (the Bronx, for the record). And, lucky for them, house music doesn't discriminate. House music found them.

The boys grew up playing music. "We used to play a lot in church," says Steve. "Our main thing is percussion - drums, congas. We also play keyboards, bass, stuff like that. When we were young we'd play in different bands, borough to borough, way before DJing came along."

But church wasn't the only musical influence in the house. The boys' father was a veteran of the disco era, of New York clubs like the Paradise Garage. Growing up, the kids and their father would listen to Timmy Regisford's radio shows on Kiss FM. "House music was kind of always around, in a way," says Steve.

HA HA HA STEVE ANGELLO IS MY HERO!

"The princess of bottle service culture herself, Ms. famous-for-no-particular-reason, Miss Paris Hilton, was publicly humiliated by Swedish house mafia man Steve Angello in move that will leave DJs around the world cheering his name till the end of time.

The LA-based diva turned up at the 1OAK party at Angello’s showcase at WMC on Thursday night/Friday morning, and found his music “was not even danceable and was frankly giving me a migraine.”

Hilton asked one of her friends who runs the hotel to change the music and the manager said between emphatic kisses of her ass, “I’ll lead you up to the DJ booth and he’ll play whatever you want.”

The age old battle between ignorant, over-privileged wannabes, and DJs trying to do their best, just went front and centre. Brilliant.

Angello claims Hilton repeatedly asked him to play hip hop. Hilton claims she only asked him to play Bob Sinclar or Daft Punk.

But whatever went down, it led to a big fight. Hilton’s friend Doug Reinhardt and her entourage got a kicking for apparently slapping Steve Angello.

Angello on his Twitter said: “for someone who claims to make records...dont come into a booth and ask me to play hip hop and then have your doorman slap me. or at least if you wanna do that.....dont moan about it when we all kicked off. dont be so fucking rude.”

Hilton’s response on her Myspace blog portrays her ignorance and self-importance in the ugly light of day.

“The DJ (I don’t even know his name cause he sucks so bad) was playing the worst music ever!,” she says. “I think he was jealous cause Bob Sinclair is a far better DJ then this guy by about a million times.

“He was so unbelievably rude and all because I asked to play one good song. Then out of nowhere his bodyguard (don’t ask me why he has a bodyguard, like he really needs one. Ha) pushed me really hard, that’s when my boyfriend, like my knight in shining armor, stepped in and told the guy to keep his hands off of me. Then all hell broke loose, it was like something out of a fight movie, it was so frightening.”

Whatever the truth, the fact is Hilton thought her fame granted her the right to use Steve Angello as her monkey DJ for the night.

How many times have us DJs been requested to play terrible records by clueless self-serving wannabes who want nothing more than to bask in their own glory?
